Childcare Durham

General Information

EYFS – Early Years Foundation Stage

As a full day care setting registered with Ofsted we must follow the guidelines set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This ensures we are running our establishment correctly to these guidelines and giving our best skills and knowledge to the children that attend.

Outside Play

Our outside area is a good size to cater for all ages within the nursery and schools out club. We have a variety of resources and equipment and staff will also involve the children in group games like parachute play and ball games. The children go outside in all weathers if they have the appropriate clothing for example, sun hat and sun screen or wellies and raincoat. The children go for walks around the local area if the weather permits (with parental permission).

Owing to success and expansion we are recruiting for a Senior Staff Member/Baby Room Leader, Bank staff and a Lunch Cover/Long term sick cover.

Part of your role will be to ensure the very best conditions for children to learn are in place. How well-planned and well-resourced play activities allow for progression in a child’s thinking and understanding. If you have sound knowledge and understand how to ensure these principles become reality for children please contact us at info@secondstepsdurhamroad.com

Learn more about funding

The nursery places we cater for on Monday to Friday are full time, part time, shifts and sessions which run from 7am – 1pm or 1pm – 7pm. Additional hours may be added to sessions.

A maximum of 30 hours funded childcare is available for all children from working families +9 months.

15 hours universal funding is available for all 3- and 4-year-olds.

Some two-year-olds are also eligible for additional funded hours too if you are in receipt of extra support. Please contact your early years team or Family Information Service at your local council if you think you might be entitled.

All funding is ‘Term Time Only’ for 38 weeks of the year –

  • 30 hours x 38 weeks = 1,140 hours
  • 15 hours x 38 weeks = 570 hours

We stretch our funding over 52 weeks, giving 11.18 / 22.35 hours per week, 47.5 / 95.0 hours per month.

Our non-funded nursery billing is calculated over 52 weeks, with the cost spread equally over 12 monthly bills.
